Tom Bassolino

Tom joined Strategic Patents in 2013 with a decade of legal and engineering experience. Tom’s practice focuses on patent prosecution, including the drafting, filing, and prosecuting of U.S., PCT, national stage, and international patent applications. His practice includes working with inventors, reviewing invention disclosure statements, and working with engineers and other technical staff on new product developments and design–around opportunities.

Tom has prepared and prosecuted patents related to the medical arts including orthopedic devices, magnetic resonance imaging systems, ultrasound scanning systems, flexible stents, drug delivery devices, and novel cancer-fighting systems. He also has significant experience working on mechanical and electrical technologies including solid form fabrication machines, green energy systems, computer architecture, data networks, software, pumps, drilling equipment, razors, stationary products, lighters, and business methods.

Before joining Strategic Patents, Tom worked in the New York City office of a large general practice firm where his practice involved patent prosecution, patent litigation, post–grant patent practice, patent portfolio due diligence, and the preparation of noninfringement, invalidity, patentability, and freedom–to–operate opinions for utility and design patents.

Tom is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and admitted to the practice of law in New York, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. He also serves on the Board of Directors for both the Frederick County (Md) Chapter of the Maryland Alumni Association and the National Association of Patent Practitioners (NAPP), and he is a member of other legal and engineering trade organizations including the New York State Bar Association, the Maryland Bar Association, the DC Bar Association, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
